VOLUNTEER
Help achieve our mission
Want to be a Hero?
The Critical Care Comics team is filled with amazing, super volunteers who swoop in and save the day by giving a few hours each month to help us succeed. They're the real MVPs (Most Valuable Protectors) in achieving our mission. CCC volunteers do all sorts of cool stuff, like assembling toy and comic book care packages for our hospital visits, dressing up in awesome superhero costumes to hang out with kids, and chatting about our super-missions at community events. It's like having superpowers to spread joy and smiles!

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
-
No. Most volunteers support Critical Care Comics out of costume through a variety of supporting roles. It takes a big team to organize multiple hospital visits and events each week. We encourage all volunteers to start as ‘Agents’ and shadow experienced volunteers before submitting a costume for approval.
-
Many of Critical Care Comic’s volunteers have never cosplayed, and don’t plan to. We have a ton of needs for your help out of costume.
-
Yes. We also have the real Batman.
-
No. Volunteer whenever your schedule allows. It’s as easy as marking yourself ‘Going’ on a scheduled hospital visit or event.
We ask if volunteer schedules could allow for one visit/event every one to two months. Offering more time than that, or joining a team, is greatly appreciated.
-
Actually, yes we do.
We appreciate the support of our volunteers, and want to acknowledge the time they give to supporting our mission. For each visit/event/team activity/fundraising project/etc. you collect points and unlock special challenge coins.
Ex) If you sign up for two events in one day, you receive the “I can do this all day” coin feat. Captain America.
-
We follow the policies of the medical facilities that allow our volunteers to visit patients. Generally this requires the initial COVID-19 vaccine, and an annual flu shot to visit hospitals* between December and April.
*Please let us know if you have a medical exception to consider.

When your application is received a member of our recruitment team will respond by email within 48 - 72 hours. They may ask a couple follow up questions, and for your schedule to book an interview at our office with two of our volunteers.
Following your interview we do a background check [hospitals + kids protection], and once clear you’ll receive access to our new volunteer resources and your branded ‘agent’ uniform. We request a $50 donation through our website before beginning the background check to cover the cost of our onboarding process and resources.
